Rules + FAQ

Outdoorable 2026 · September 1–28 · Studio Strong

The quick version

What you signed up for

Four weekly rounds

September 1–7, 8–14, 15–21, and 22–28. Each round gives you a fresh chance at a weekly category cash prize.

Six fixed weekly targets

Your real 7-day total places you into the next target above your total. Closest without going over wins that category.

Five surprise challenges

The Outdoorable Five are announced same-day during the challenge. Watch Studio Strong communications so you don’t miss one.

$45 completion credit

Reach 280,000 total steps during the 28-day challenge and earn a $45 Studio Strong credit.

Weekly prize eligibility: You must record at least 3,000 steps every day of that 7-day round. If any day is below 3,000, you remain in the challenge but are ineligible to win that week’s six-category cash prize.
Weekly categories

How your category is determined

You do not choose a level. At the end of each 7-day round, your total is placed into the next fixed target above your steps. You compete only in that one category for that week.

Example: If you finish a week with 43,700 steps, your next fixed target is 44,000, so you are in Comfortable. You are not also competing in the higher categories.

Registration + prize pool

Paid challengers make the official roster

Submitting the registration form does not by itself place you in the official Outdoorable challenge. New registrations close at 5:00 PM Central Time on September 1. Your $45 buy-in must be received by September 2 for you to be included in the paid challenger roster and eligible for prizes.

No payment = no challenge entry. If you register but never complete payment, you will not be included in official scoring, weekly category results, Immeasurable, pop-up prize results, or the Studio Strong completion credit.

Weekly cash prize amounts are based on the final number of paid challengers. After the September 2 payment deadline, Studio Strong will reconcile the paid roster and referral credits, finalize the available cash prize pool, and announce the exact prize amounts to participants.

Joining on September 1? The challenge still begins September 1. To remain eligible for Round 1’s weekly category prize, your official midnight snapshot for September 1 must still show at least 3,000 steps.
Referral savings

Bring another challenger. Earn money back.

Outdoorable referral savings are for participant-to-participant referrals. The referring person must also be a registered Outdoorable participant, and the new participant must list that person by name on their registration.

What does not count: referrals from Doreen, Studio Strong advertising, Studio Strong social media, or general promotion. No self-referrals. Referral credit is one-directional: the participant named as the referrer receives the credit. Two participants cannot refer each other and both receive credit for the same pair; if that happens, only the first valid referral recorded counts. A referral counts only after the referred participant’s $45 buy-in is received by September 2.

Because new registrations close at 5:00 PM CT on September 1, all referred friends must be registered by that deadline. Referral credits are finalized after the paid roster is reconciled.

The 3,000-step rule

Daily movement matters too

The weekly cash prize isn’t only about landing near a target. Outdoorable is still a movement challenge, so consistency counts.

To be eligible for your weekly category prize, every single day in that round must show at least 3,000 steps. A 2,999-step day makes you ineligible for that week’s category prize even if your 7-day total is the closest to the target.

This does not remove you from Outdoorable. Start fresh in the next round, keep chasing your 280,000-step completion goal, and continue participating in the rest of the challenge.

Official step records

The 12:00 AM Central Time snapshot

Count. It is our challenge tracking platform, but the number you see in Count. It later may not always match the number used for Outdoorable results. At exactly 12:00 AM Central Time each night, Studio Strong takes an automated snapshot of the Count. It totals for the calendar day that just ended. That snapshot becomes the official Outdoorable record for that day.

The 12:00 AM CT snapshot is official and final. Your phone, watch, or health app must have synced your steps to Count. It before midnight for those steps to be included in that day’s Outdoorable total.

For example, Tuesday’s official step count is captured at 12:00 AM Wednesday. If your device syncs more Tuesday steps after that snapshot — even if Count. It later backfills those steps onto Tuesday — they do not change Tuesday’s official Outdoorable total.

Example: At 12:00 AM CT, our snapshot records 7,820 steps for Tuesday. Your watch syncs Wednesday morning and Count. It later updates Tuesday to 9,140 steps. For Outdoorable scoring, Tuesday remains 7,820.

Best practice: open Count. It and make sure your device is fully synced before you go to bed. Do not wait until midnight to troubleshoot a connection or delayed sync.

This same 12:00 AM snapshot determines whether you met the 3,000-step daily minimum. A late sync after midnight cannot restore weekly prize eligibility for a day that was officially captured below 3,000 steps.

Separate no-ceiling challenge

Immeasurable

Immeasurable is the no-ceiling option for participants who want to chase the biggest total of the entire challenge. It is a separate challenge-long, opt-in prize and does not replace the six fixed weekly categories.

You can play both games. Opting into Immeasurable does not remove you from weekly category prizes. Your weekly totals are still scored normally, and you can win a weekly category even if you are also chasing Immeasurable. Of course, protecting a weekly ceiling may make it harder to post the biggest 28-day total — that strategy is up to you.
Completion goal

Earn your $45 Studio Strong credit

Reach 280,000 total steps between September 1 and September 28 — an average of 10,000 per day — and earn a $45 Studio Strong credit.

Your completion credit can stack with a weekly category win, Immeasurable, or an Outdoorable Five prize.

Five same-day surprises

The Outdoorable Five

Unpredictable

A surprise full-day target announced that morning. Closest without going over wins.

Adaptable

Two same-day targets — one easier, one harder. Choose your path. One winner per target.

Incomparable

No target and no ceiling. Highest single-day step total wins.

Available

Announced mid-afternoon and sized for the shorter remaining day. Pay attention.

Sociable

Participants are randomly paired that morning. The winning pair is closest without going over the announced combined target. If the participant count is odd, the extra person is paired with a Studio Strong staff member.

FAQ

The stuff people will text us about anyway

What app are we using?

Count. It is the challenge tracking platform. Use Count. It’s join/setup instructions here and enter Outdoorable referral code 0f94 when prompted. Make sure your phone or connected wearable is connected and syncing correctly throughout Outdoorable. Studio Strong’s official contest results are based on our nightly locked records, not necessarily on a total that appears later after a delayed sync.

Is submitting the registration form enough to enter?

No. Your registration becomes official only after Studio Strong receives your $45 buy-in. New registrations close at 5:00 PM CT on September 1, and payment must be received by September 2. People who register but do not pay by the deadline are not included in the official challenger roster or eligible for Outdoorable prizes or completion credit.

How can I pay the $45 buy-in?

Use the payment instructions provided on the Outdoorable Welcome page after registration. Available options include Venmo, CashApp, PayPal, and cash or check for local participants.

How do referral savings work?

Refer another Outdoorable participant who registers, names you on their registration, and completes the $45 buy-in by September 2. Earn $10 back for 1 paid referral, $20 for 2, $30 for 3, and your full $45 buy-in back for 4 or more paid referrals. The referral is one-directional: only the participant named as the referrer gets credit for that signup. Two participants cannot refer each other and both receive credit for the same pair; if that happens, only the first valid referral recorded counts.

Can I list Doreen or Studio Strong as my referral?

No. Referral savings are specifically for participant-to-participant recruiting. Doreen, Studio Strong advertising, social media, and general promotions do not qualify for referral credit.

Why aren’t the weekly cash prize amounts listed yet?

The prize pool is based on the final number of paid challengers. Studio Strong will confirm the paid roster after the challenge begins — typically around Day 2 or Day 3 — and then announce the exact cash prize amounts.

Do I pick my weekly category?

No. Your final 7-day total automatically places you into the next fixed target above your steps.

Can I compete in more than one weekly category at the same time?

No. You are eligible in one weekly category only.

What happens if I miss the 3,000-step daily minimum?

You stay in Outdoorable, but you cannot win that week’s six-category cash prize. You begin the next weekly round with a clean slate.

Can I still earn the 280,000-step completion credit if I miss a 3,000-step day?

Yes. The 3,000-step daily minimum controls weekly category prize eligibility. The completion credit is based on reaching 280,000 total steps across the full 28-day challenge.

Can I win cash and still earn the $45 completion credit?

Yes. They stack.

What if I go over my weekly category target?

You move into the next category based on your final weekly total. Example: 44,050 is over Comfortable’s 44,000 ceiling, so that total falls into Capable, whose target is 54,000.

What if I finish above 114,000 steps in one week?

You are above the six fixed weekly category targets for that round. If you opted into Immeasurable, those steps still matter toward that separate no-ceiling challenge-long contest.

If I opt into Immeasurable, can I still win a weekly category?

Yes. Immeasurable is a separate challenge-long contest. Opting in does not remove you from the six weekly categories, and your weekly totals are scored normally. You can win a weekly category and still remain in the Immeasurable contest.

Does the 3,000-step rule apply to pop-up prizes?

No. The 3,000-step daily minimum is the eligibility rule for the six weekly category prizes. Each Outdoorable Five announcement will state its own same-day rules.

What happens if Sociable has an odd number of participants?

The unpaired participant will be assigned a Studio Strong staff member as their partner for that day.

When are my steps considered final?

At exactly 12:00 AM Central Time each night, Studio Strong takes an automated snapshot of Count. It for the calendar day that just ended. Whatever Count. It has synced for you when that snapshot runs is your official and final Outdoorable total for that day. Example: Tuesday is locked by the snapshot taken at 12:00 AM Wednesday. Make sure your device has synced to Count. It before midnight.

What if Count. It shows more steps later?

That can happen when a phone, watch, or connected health app syncs after midnight. Count. It may later backfill those additional steps onto the previous date, but Outdoorable results will not be changed retroactively. The 12:00 AM CT snapshot is the official contest record.

What if I sync the following morning and Count. It adds steps to yesterday?

Those steps may appear in Count. It under the previous date, but they will not change your official Outdoorable total for that day. The automated snapshot was already taken at 12:00 AM CT, and that recorded number is final. Participants are responsible for making sure their phone, watch, or connected health app has synced to Count. It before midnight.

Could a late sync affect my 3,000-step eligibility?

Yes. The 3,000-step minimum is based on the official 12:00 AM CT snapshot for the day that just ended. If that snapshot records 2,999 steps or fewer, you are ineligible for that week’s category prize even if Count. It later backfills enough steps to put that date over 3,000.

What happens if two people tie for the same weekly category?

If two or more eligible participants finish equally close to the same weekly target, priority goes to a tied participant who has not already won a weekly Outdoorable category cash prize during this year’s challenge. If the tied participants have the same previous-winner status — either none have won before or all have won before — the winner is selected at random. With two tied participants, we’ll use a coin flip; with three or more, we’ll use a random drawing.

Do Outdoorable Five prizes or the $45 completion credit count as a previous weekly win for a tiebreaker?

No. Only a previous win in one of the six weekly Outdoorable category cash prizes affects the first tiebreaker. Pop-up prizes, Immeasurable, and the $45 Studio Strong completion credit are separate.

Does the previous-winner rule matter if one person is actually closer to the target?

No. It applies only to a true tie. If one eligible participant is even one step closer to the target without going over, that participant wins.

What time zone does the challenge use?

All challenge cutoffs and announcements use Central Time (CT).
