More than Just a Workout

30 Activities. 30 Days. Adventure Together!

By Doreen Warfield, Studio Strong

I have a question for you.

When was the last time your family did something genuinely fun together? Not errands. Not practices. Not sitting in the same room staring at different screens. Something that made someone laugh so hard they snorted. Something that ended with everyone a little tired and a lot happy.

July is thirty-one days long. We’re asking you to fill thirty of them with something worth remembering.

That’s the 30-in-30 Family Challenge. Your whole family teams up to complete thirty activities across nine categories. Then you see how you stack up against other families doing the same thing.

Yes. It’s a competition. Sort of.

Mostly it’s an excuse to do the things you keep saying you’ll do and never quite get around to.

Here’s how it works.

Sign up, add your family members with their own emoji avatars, and start checking things off. No schedule. No pressure. No one telling you to hurry up. Just thirty things, thirty days, and however your family wants to get there.

Nine categories. Something for everyone.

Water Works asks you to choose six activities from options like water fights, splash pads, skipping rocks, blowing big bubbles, and jumping into water fully clothed. Yes. Fully clothed. Do it.

Explore sends you to a farmer’s market, an outdoor concert, an art gallery, or a roller rink. Three choices from six options.

Outdoors covers picnics, campfires, hiking a trail you’ve never been on, and sleeping outside one night. Two choices. Pick the ones that sound slightly uncomfortable and do those.

Taste Bud Explosion involves baking a new cookie, making ice popsicles, trying a vegan dish, or making s’mores with something weird in them. Three choices. We are very serious about the weird s’mores.

Do Good and Be Better asks your family to do five random acts of kindness, feed the birds, go offline for 24 hours, make a treat for someone else, volunteer, or write letters to grandparents. Four choices. This one is our favorite category. It quietly sneaks up on you.

Fun with Family and Friends covers blanket forts, outdoor games, hide and seek, drive-in movies, and calling a friend you haven’t talked to in years. Four choices.

Think Just a Little includes crossword puzzles, learning twenty words in a new language, making a time capsule, and writing a letter by hand. Three choices. Your kids will think this category is torture. It is not.

Get Out sends you outside with chalk, a camera, and no particular agenda. Create something. Photograph something. Run through the rain if it rains.

Inside rounds it out with a summer playlist, a dance party, a DIY spa day, and watching your favorite childhood movie. Two choices. The spa day and the movie are an excellent Tuesday night.

And yes. There’s a leaderboard.

Other families are doing this too. You can see where your family lands. We are not above a little healthy competition over who made the weirdest s’mores or ran through the most rain.

Why Studio Strong made this.

We talk a lot about strength. We talk about showing up, building habits, doing the hard things. And we mean all of it.

But strength is also about the life you’re building it for. The summers that become stories. The kids who grow up remembering that their family did things together. The grown-ups who remember that life is supposed to be fun, not just optimized.

July flies. We say it every year and it keeps being true.

This is the list that makes it stick.
